The Program
Adventureland Park's Work & Camp Program provides discounted camping in addition to our regular wages for employees that work throughout our park season.
Adventureland Park voted "1998 Employer of the Year" by Workamper News.
Our program has become a Win-Win for Adventureland Park and the Working RVer!
Who & What We Are
Adventureland is an outdoor amusement facility covering 200+ acres, featuring: Adventureland Park, Inn, and Campground. We are located on the Eastern edge of the Des Moines area just off of exit 142A on Interstate 80. We expect to provide entertainment for well over a half of million guests this coming season.
Adventureland Park is open beginning with part time weekend operation the last week of April; full time daily operation beginning prior to Memorial Day, through late August; and part time weekends through the end of September.
Job Descriptions
Working RVers have historically filled many positions here at Adventureland Park. They have worked in:
- Rides Operations
- Running and assisting in the operation of amusement rides in our park.
- Retail Operations
- Working as a retail clerk in one of our many retail locations in the park.
- Food Service Operations
- Working in one of six food court areas in the park. Many of which were managed by Working RVers.
- Games Operations
- Working as a team member in one of the three games locations in our park.
You need to be aware that all of our positions require you to be on your feet
Work Requirements
During weekend operations - late April to mid May and late August to late September: Work at least one shift/day.
During full-time daily operations - mid May to late August: Work 4 1/2 to 7 1/2 hours/day for 5-6 days/week. You may expect to be scheduled up to 32 hours/week.
Team Member Dress Code
We have a dress code that we ask all of our employees to follow. Adventureland works at developing a clean, well kept appearance.
- Male Employees
- Hair can not extend below the shirt collar, beards are not allowed, but conservative mustaches and sideburns are acceptable.
- Female Employees
- If hair length is longer than shoulder length it must be tied back, and conservative use of make-up is required.

What are the Benefits?
Wages: You will be paid for every hour worked. The hourly rate you will receive is determined by the job you will be performing. The wage scale will be between $6.50/hour and $7.00/hour.
Workamper Site Fees:
There are no camping charges from April 7 th through May 31 st . If you depart before June 1 st you will be charged site rent for a complete month and/or a pro-rated amount for the portion of the month you camped based on $125.00+6%=$132.50.
June through September charges per month will be $125.00+6%=$132.50. However, the August and September charges will be waived if you complete the season. If you depart before the end of the season, you will be charged site rent for a complete month and/or a pro-rated amount for the portion of the month you camped based on $125.00+6%=$132.50.
Individuals living in a site and not employeed by Adventureland Campground, Inn, or Park will be assessed a monthly charge. This charge applies from April 7 th to the end of the season in late September. These charges will be discussed during the interview.
End of Season Bonus
You will earn a $100.00 bonus/campsite prior to leaving the campground after our last day of operation in late September. This will be provided to all Workampers who work through the end of our 2010 season.
Overall Value
If everyone is employed from your site for the entire season, your overall cost for camping will be $165.00 for almost 6 months when you include the bonus. Plus, you are paid for all hours worked at the rate of $6.50-$7.00/hour.
Other Benefits
There will be several planned activities for your enjoyment. We have trips to area attractions, movie night, BINGO night, ice cream socials, department parties, contests, golf outings, and much more. You will also have free park entrance for a large portion of the season. There will also be discounted tickets available for your friends and family that come to visit.
We will also provide you with two complete sets of uniforms. It will be necessary for you to provide your own socks and shoes. The footwear should be a comfortable, white low-cut tennis style shoe.
